Door repair: photographed cases

Door repairs for homes include hinge refixing and adjustment, ordinary door-handle fixings and latch alignment. For a door rubbing against the floor or jamb, we check hinge support and clearance before deciding on adjustment or local repair. A loose handle also needs its fixing and the material supporting it checked; replacing the whole door is not automatically necessary.

Our North Adelaide front-door case records a closing-alignment repair. A door that catches after wet weather or a flooring change may need a different repair; trimming the edge is not automatically the solution. North Adelaide closing-alignment repair

Identify the door as an entry, internal or cupboard door, and describe the material if known: solid timber, a hollow-core panel or a metal-framed system. A hinge screw pulling out of a sound fixing point is different from split, softened or moving material around the hinge. Assessment separates adjustment and a local fixing repair from a door or frame that needs wider replacement or specialist work.

Wardrobe Sliding Door Rollers and Bottom Guides

We also repair sliding wardrobe-door hardware. The Marion case records worn lower rollers being repaired and the panels realigned. Rollers, bottom guides and the track work together: a panel that tilts or repeatedly leaves its guide needs the whole running assembly checked.

Wardrobe panels, glazed patio doors and ordinary flyscreens use different fittings. Heavy or mirrored panels should stay fitted; an unstable panel should be left unused until it can be handled safely. Marion wardrobe repair record

Door Repair Costs: Alignment, Hardware and Access

The quote depends on the number and type of doors, the fault, required parts and access. Painting, primer, colour matching and any remaining finishing work should be listed clearly. To get started, send your suburb and a short description of the problem; existing photos are optional. An on-site check confirms the work and written quote.

Closing checks distinguish a door rubbing on the frame from a latch missing its keeper. Clearance around the panel, hinge support and the position of the latch help locate the problem. The useful result is a door that moves and latches as agreed, with any remaining paint or local frame work identified separately.

For a local frame or hinge repair, the quote should identify the affected fixing, the condition of the supporting material and the finish required. Confirm whether compatible hinges, handles or latch parts are supplied, whether customer-supplied fittings can be used, and whether preparation, primer, paint and colour matching are included. A full frame replacement, fire-rated door or security assembly needs its own confirmed scope.

Existing photos can show the whole door and frame, the hinge or latch area and the point that catches. Include the suburb, door type, number of affected doors and whether it can currently close and latch. Photos are optional and do not confirm a compatible part or final price; keep heavy panels fitted and avoid including keys, access codes or personal documents.

Email safe existing door photos, or use the door and screen repair checklist to describe the fault. For a door that cannot be secured, discuss an urgent repair request; availability and any urgency fee must be confirmed.

Door Repairs: Repair Questions

Does a sticking door always need trimming?

No. Hinge position, fixings, latch alignment and clearances should be checked first. MEL ONE assesses the contact point and door condition before agreeing a repair; removing material is not a universal solution to poor closing.

Should I force a door that will not close?

The fitting can stay at rest while we discuss suitable next steps. Describe the contact point and whether it can still be used safely. If access or security is affected, mention that when contacting MEL ONE.

Do you assess wardrobe sliding doors?

Yes, include the wardrobe door type, the movement problem and any visible track or roller details. The Marion record shows a sliding wardrobe enquiry; parts and scope are confirmed for each system.

Can a repair quote be confirmed from a photo alone?

Photos can explain the symptom, but the door, frame and fittings need an on-site assessment to confirm the repair scope and written quote.

Can rollers be replaced instead of replacing a sliding door?

Sometimes. The panel, roller housing, track and available compatible parts must be assessed together. The Marion wardrobe case records a roller repair; a heavy glazed patio panel requires its own assessment and handling plan.

Services

Door Adjustment, Replacement Parts and Specialist Hardware

For hinged doors, the agreed work can involve hinge or latch adjustment, local fixing repairs or compatible hardware. Frame damage, structural movement, broken glazing, fire-rated doors and security hardware need a separate scope. We check closing, latching or sliding operation with you when the agreed repair is complete.
