After Heavy Rain: What to Check Before Patching and Painting
Plan water-stain, plasterboard and skirting repairs in the right order. Separate water entry, material condition and finishing before requesting a quote.

Start with the water source, not the paint colour
If a mark returns after rain, tell us when it appears and what has already been checked. A roof, window or wall concern needs its own investigation; the stain below it does not identify the entry point. MEL ONE can assess the related local wall or trim repair, with our company team confirming the accepted scope and requirements for any separate investigation or repairs.
A dry-looking face is not a repair-ready assessment
Record soft plasterboard, swollen skirting, bubbling paint or a persistent musty smell without opening the wall. Ask what evidence supports starting repairs and whether the affected layers need further checks. Professional moisture investigation, extraction, drying and mould remediation are separate from our ordinary patching or finishing enquiry.
Keep clear of a sagging ceiling or water-affected electrical fittings and arrange suitable urgent help. The ceiling, bulges and unknown damaged materials can remain undisturbed, with any roof-space investigation left to suitable assessment. Routine repair planning follows once the immediate concern has been dealt with.
Split the repair quote into useful stages
Ask which damaged material is being repaired or replaced, what patch support or preparation is needed and whether priming, local painting or a larger repaint area is included. List skirting and cornice separately. Existing colour, sheen and light affect the visible finish; discussing the expected match helps clarify any difference a small touch-up may leave.
Send a short repair history with your enquiry
Give your suburb, affected room, timing of the water marks and any completed leak investigation. Describe the remaining wall or timber damage and who approves work. Use our contact form for the description, or email safe existing photos to admin@melonemaintenance.com.au; the form does not offer photo upload. We assess the request and confirm the accepted scope, written quote and visit arrangements.

Related Indoor Moisture and Cleaning Guides
For recurring bathroom marks or affected belongings, use the separate guides to organise observations before discussing the cleaning or repair scope.
For water appearing around an indoor floor waste, record whether it follows fixture use, rain or both, then comparefloor drain blockages, odours and nearby leaks. The nearest drain is not automatically the source.
After Heavy Rain: Repair Questions
Can a rain-related water stain be patched or painted straight away?
Water-entry repairs and covering a visible mark address different issues. First establish what has been done about the source and whether the affected material is ready for repair. Tell us about remaining dampness, soft board or repeat staining. Local patching, trim work and painting are then defined separately; specialist drying is a different service scope.
What should I report if a room smells musty after rain?
Give the room, timing, known water entry and any visible staining without disturbing materials. A smell does not identify mould type or show that hidden layers are dry. We can discuss the related household-repair request, but professional moisture investigation, drying and mould remediation need separately confirmed arrangements before cosmetic repairs.
