Roof, Gutter and Exterior Concerns: A Ground-Level Observation Checklist

A non-invasive way to document visible exterior-maintenance concerns before speaking with MEL ONE in Adelaide.

Observe from where you can safely stand

From an accessible ground-level position, note visible debris, staining, gaps, trim wear or a downpipe concern. You can say which side of the property is involved and what you see without making a diagnosis about weatherproofing or structural condition.

Roof access, ladders, opening guttering or reaching over a balcony are not needed to make an enquiry. Weather, working at height and concealed conditions affect what may need assessment, so visual observations are not a roof inspection.

Capture useful context without creating risk

Take one broad photo showing the relevant elevation and another photo of a visible gutter, downpipe or exterior element if it is safely in view. You may note when you first observed the issue or whether it followed known weather, without asserting a cause.

Downpipe outlets, exterior paint and seals may be partly concealed by landscaping or access conditions. There is no need to remove leaves, climb, shift heavy planters or use water to test a suspected concern for the sake of photographs.

Use the observation to guide the enquiry

Share your suburb, access considerations, visible observation and preferred reply method. Mention areas that cannot be reached from the ground or ordinary access points so the discussion starts with realistic site context.

MEL ONE can discuss household-maintenance enquiry options. Work at height, weatherproofing or other specialist requirements may need appropriate assessment and a separately confirmed scope.

Key notes

  • Observe only from an accessible ground-level position.
  • Note the side of the property and the visible concern.
  • Take wide and close photos only where safe.
  • Do not climb, use a ladder, remove material or test with water.
  • Include access limitations and your Adelaide suburb.

Keep in mind

  • This is general enquiry guidance, not an inspection or repair instruction.
  • An enquiry does not confirm safety, suitability, a visit or a repair approach.
