A garden request works best when pruning boundaries and retained plants are clear. Add damaged timber or gate hardware as separate repair items so the required access, materials and waste arrangements can be agreed for each task.
Garden Tidy-Up Checklist: Retained Plants, Paths and Green Waste
For garden pruning and tidy-ups, identify the lawn, beds and paths separately. Mark plants to retain and the clearance wanted around walkways; “cut everything back” leaves too much open to interpretation.
Mowing, edging, small-plant pruning and green-waste handling are distinct quoted items. Compare the same areas and waste arrangement. New landscaping and large-tree work are different scopes.
Deck Boards, Fence Palings and Gate Hinges Need Separate Checks
A split board, loose paling and gate that drags have different supporting parts. Describe the affected board, hinge or latch for fence and gate repairs; deck and pergola timber concerns need their own condition assessment.
Leave unstable areas unused. Observations from ordinary use are enough; deteriorated timber can stay unused and a sticking gate at rest while assessment is arranged.

Record the entry route, locked gates, pets and space available for the work. Tell the assessor about adjoining property or shared-boundary restrictions before scheduling.
Name the person who can provide entry and settle any permission needed. Access arrangements are separate from deciding how much vegetation or timber work belongs in the quote.

What should I compare in garden tidy-up quotes?
Compare the same lawn or bed areas, pruning limits, retained plants and green-waste handling. Identify fence or deck repairs separately because their materials and supporting parts need assessment. A tidy-up quote does not automatically include every outdoor repair or specialist tree task.
Does a garden tidy-up automatically include green-waste removal?
No. Agree the retained plants, tasks, waste quantity and disposal arrangements in the work scope and quote.
Should I walk on a damaged deck to show which boards move?
No. Describe movement already noticed during normal use and provide only safely available information. Keep apparently unstable areas unused and arrange the appropriate assessment.
